When you are faced with the death of a loved one, making the arrangements for their final resting place can be difficult. But by planning ahead helps to ease that burden. But where do I choose? Why not select a resting place that offers tranquility and peace of mind. The Shiloh Cemetery does just that. The grounds are surrounded by wrought iron fencing and the isles are feathered with delicate crape myrtles. Benches have been placed throughout the cemetery offering opportunity for some quiet, peaceful reflection with your loved ones. Grounds are maintained by The City pf Fruitland Park.

Shiloh Cemetery is a municipal cemetery owned and operated by the City of Fruitland Park. The City has endeavored in these rules to safeguard the individual lot owners as well as the cemetery. We trust that none will intentionally violate any of its rules, as they are necessary to assure the proper management and development of a beautiful cemetery.

General Rules

The exclusive use of the cemetery is for the burial of human remains and shall only be used for cemetery purposes.
The City will maintain the cemetery as a well-preserved burial park, including the cutting of grass and trimming of shrubs and trees at reasonable intervals.
The City Manager or their designee shall be responsible for supervision of all workers within the boundaries of the cemetery.
The City shall not be liable for any loss or damage to markers monuments, corner markers, vases or other items in the cemetery, or the rights of lot owners arising from causes beyond its control and from any damage caused by the elements, acts of God, thieves, vandals, or other action.
The cemetery employees are prohibited from receiving any payment, tip, or other compensation in any form from lot owners or their representatives

Conduct Within the Cemetery

Visitors are reminded that cemetery grounds are considered sacred and a strict accepted decorum shall be required at all times.
Pets shall be prohibited in the cemetery.
No soliciting is permitted in the cemetery.
Sale of any items on cemetery property is strictly prohibited unless authorized by the City in writing.
No signs or notices of any kind shall be placed in the cemetery, other than those placed by the City.
Receptacles for waste materials are placed at convenient locations throughout the cemetery. The placing or disposing of debris at any other location is prohibited.

Rules for Memorials/ Decoration of Plots and Columbarium

The City is not responsible for floral pieces, baskets, frames or receptacles in or to which flowers are places or attached.
No planting of flowers, shrubs or herbage of any kind is permitted on lots in the cemetery. The City may remove any flower, weed, shrub, plant of any kind or any other item, artifact, structure, or material.
The use of artificial flowers during the summer is discouraged.
Any extra decorations placed on holidays or other special occasions will be removed after ten days.
No grave side benches or other items shall be placed on or near lots or niches in the cemetery, except as placed by the City.

In the early part of 1896 , S. F. Smith agreed to deed a portion of the Old Plantation Fruit Farm to Fruitland Park for a cemetery, and several internments were made before the deed was finally given. The first internment was that of either Mr. Elwell, who died sometime in 1896, or that of Mrs. Mary V. Butler, wife of N.F. Butler, who died September 18, 1896. On March 24, 1897, S.F. Smith and wife deeded this plot of one and three-fourths acres to the Fruitland Park Cemetery Association, with C.W. Fox, G.R. Smith, and S.S. Wood, Trustees. The cemetery is undenominational and is named Shiloh.

Timeline

Pre- 1876	Burials in the area formerly Gardenia and now known as Fruitland Park took place at: Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg, built in 1858 with markers dated 1867, Mount Pleasant African Methodist Episcopal Church Fruitland Park, first black church (sponsored by Hopewell Church log cabin) erected in 1871, and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church grounds at Spring Lake Road (formerly known as Chetwynd), Fruitland Park, 1890 (one of the oldest structures in the country).
1876	Fruitland Park Founded by Major O. P. Rooks of Cincinnati, Ohio the town was named after the Fruitland Nurseries of Augusta Georgia.
11/1/1883	Fruitland Park was surveyed by G. A. Long, C.E.
1/3/1884	Fruitland Park was platted by C. J. Joseph, C.E.
1886	Mr. Elwell or Mrs. Mary Butler (wife of N. F. Buter) who died September 18, 1896. (first Internment).

Smith as Trustees of the Fruitland Park Cemetery Association of Fruitland Park, Lake County, Florida -- deeded three-fourths acre plot for Beginning at the northwest corner of the east half of the northwest quarter of the southeast quarter of section four in township nineteen, south of range 24 east, and running thence south one hundred and seventy five feet, thence east four hundred and twenty eight feet, thence north one hundred and seventy five feet, thence four hundred seventy five feet to point of beginning containing one 3/4 acres, more or less A nondenominational cemetery to the Fruitland Park Cemetery Association (now known as Shiloh Cemetery) for $500.00 (five hundred US dollars).

3/26/2015	Specifications and proposals were received to furnish and install aluminum black fence link for Shiloh Cemetery and was awarded followed by additional improvements.
11/12/2015	Cemetery Fees Increased since 2009.
